The Wendell Collection consists of letters, postcards, greeting cards (birthday, Christmas, Mother's Day), commencement programs of Central Tennessee College and Maryland State College, newspaper articles, various business papers and materials including account books, receipts, stockholders' documents and a stock certificate book of the Colored Agricultural and Mechanical Association of Lexington, Kentucky, and books and ephemera of T.T. Wendell, a physician in Lexington, and his wife, Mary Alice Wendell. Also included is a large calendar from an African-American division of the Elks fraternal order, featuring Dr. Wendell and Duke Ellington. The collection is of interest for reflecting the business, educational, and social concerns of some African-Americans during the late 19th to mid-20th century period.
